SAROO Frontend Manager 0.2.0 (Windows 10/11, 64-bit)
===========================================================

Installs the SAROO dynamic frontend on your SAROO SD card, keeps it
up to date, builds the game library and cover art, and puts your original
firmware back whenever you want. Nothing is installed on the PC: this folder
contains everything it needs. Delete the folder to remove it.

Getting started
---------------
1. Extract the WHOLE zip somewhere (e.g. Documents). Do not run it from
   inside the zip.
2. Put the SAROO SD card in the PC's card reader.
3. Double-click "SAROO Frontend Manager.exe".
If Windows SmartScreen says "Windows protected your PC", click
"More info" -> "Run anyway" (the program is not code-signed).
4. Pick the card at the top (it is found automatically if it has a
   SAROO folder), then:
     * Install / Update puts the frontend on the card
     * Build library & artwork titles, cover art, title cards
5. Eject the card safely, put it in the SAROO, power on.

Install modes
-------------
* Boot straight into the frontend (recommended). Your SAROO/ssfirm.bin
is backed up to SAROO/ssfirm.bin.orig the first time, then replaced by
the frontend firmware: SAROO's own Saturn firmware, revision
2026-02-12, plus a 7-line hook that starts the frontend. It pairs
with the SAROO MCU firmware of the same release or newer. If your SAROO
runs an older release, update SAROO first or use the second mode.
* Keep my firmware. Only the frontend program is copied. Start it from the
stock SAROO menu: "Run binary file" -> frontend.bin@200000.

Getting back to stock
---------------------
* Hold B while powering on: stock SAROO menu, this boot only.
* Options (START) -> "Stock SAROO menu".
* "Restore stock firmware..." in this program: copies ssfirm.bin.orig
  back, byte for byte.

Cover art
---------
Covers are found automatically from:
  * cover.png / cover.jpg (also folder.*, box.*, front.*) inside each game
    folder in SAROO/ISO,
  * a folder you choose, with files named after the game folder or the
    serial (e.g. "T-2502G.png"),
  * SAROO's own SAROO/cover.bin.
Games without art get a generated title card. Run "Build library &
artwork" again after adding games. Games added since the last run still
show up, just without metadata or art until then. The second run is fast
because converted covers are cached on the card (SAROO/frontend/cache,
which is safe to delete).

Command line
------------
Open a terminal in this folder (right-click the folder -> "Open in Terminal"):
"saroo-cli.cmd" status --sd E:\
"saroo-cli.cmd" install --sd E:\ [--mode standalone]
"saroo-cli.cmd" prepare --sd E:\ [--art-dir D:\covers]
"saroo-cli.cmd" restore --sd E:\ [--remove-frontend]

Files it writes on the card
---------------------------
SAROO/ssfirm.bin (hook mode; original kept as ssfirm.bin.orig)
SAROO/frontend/frontend.bin the frontend
SAROO/frontend/config.txt only if missing; your settings are kept
SAROO/frontend/library.db, art.pak, cache/
SAROO/BIN/frontend.bin@200000 copy for "Run binary file"
Games, saves and your other SAROO files are never touched. Every file
it writes is read back and checked against its SHA-256.

Status: the frontend passes an emulator test suite but has not yet been
verified on a real Saturn. Please report results (see HARDWARE_TEST.md in
the project).
